Wet season and typhoons on the central coast
At Hue's station October averages 773 mm and November 642 mm, and the highest single day in its table is 978 mm. In October and November 2025 the railway cancelled, delayed or cut short trains on this coast, and SE3, a Hanoi to Hue train, is named in three of the reports below. We'd treat any trip here between late September and December as one where you may lose days.

Months, by the station figures
Monthly averages from the national regulation, plus its table of the highest single day recorded in each month. The regulation does not give the observation period in the text we extracted, so the last column says what has happened, not how often. Station figures, not month advice. The regulation's station table is the only source for this table (how we check).

The table predates the October 2025 flood. Tuoi Tre and Tien Phong both reported on 29 Oct 2025 that Bach Ma, in the hills of Hue, recorded 1,739 mm of rain in one day, which both call the largest one-day rainfall in Vietnam so far. Tuoi Tre attributes the figure to the national hydro-meteorological department.
What typically goes wrong
It is a season, not an event. The director of the national hydro-meteorological forecasting centre, quoted by the Government's news site on 6 Oct 2021, called October and November the core of the storm-and-rain season for the central provinces, and the same article carried forecast totals of 300 to 500 mm in one episode between Quang Binh and Quang Ngai. The national tourism board says the same for Hue: heavy rain and typhoons can hit from September to November.
The rail line floods. A railway statement quoted by SGGP English Edition on 29 Oct 2025 said numerous sections through Hue had been submerged on 27 and 28 Oct, with water nearly one meter above the tracks.
The sights close. Vietnam+ reported on 28 Oct 2025 that the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre had stopped receiving visitors at all its sites, with floodwater cutting roads inside the Imperial City and around the Tu Duc and Minh Mang tombs. The report said the sights would reopen as soon as the weather settled.
It comes in waves. Vietnam+ reported on 27 Oct 2025 that Hue had been hit by three flood episodes since 15 Oct, the one under way that day the largest. A second round came in November, further south.
What the railway announced in 2025, with dates
These are reports of Vietnam Railways Corporation announcements by the state news agency and a Ho Chi Minh City daily. We did not find the railway's own notices archived on its site, so each row links the report. The 2025 season is past; it tells you what a bad week looks like, not what this one will be.
| Date | What was announced | Source |
|---|---|---|
| 27 Oct 2025 | Trains SE1/SE2 and SE3/SE4 (the Reunification line, from Hanoi and Saigon) and SE19/SE20 (Hanoi to Da Nang) suspended because of floods in the centre. | Vietnam+, 28 Oct 2025 |
| 28 and 29 Oct 2025 | The heritage-journey trains HĐ1/2 and HĐ3/4 between Hue and Da Nang did not run on 28 and 29 Oct. The railway's notice, as Vietnam+ reported it, offered a free refund within 30 days of the departure date printed on the ticket. | Vietnam+, 28 Oct 2025 |
| 29 Oct 2025 | SE1, SE19 and SE20 were cancelled for departures on 29 Oct. SE2, SE3/SE4, SE5/SE6, SE7/SE9 and SE9/SE10 kept running with long delays, held at stations between Huong Thuy and Dong Ha while passengers were transferred between those stations. Passengers travelling beyond Dong Ha or Hue that day could get a free refund within 30 days of the departure date on the ticket. | SGGP English Edition, quoting Vietnam Railways Corporation, 29 Oct 2025 |
| 17 to 27 Nov 2025 | Train suspensions counted from 17 Nov because of floods on the Dieu Tri to Nha Trang section. On 24 and 25 Nov SE3 from Hanoi ended at Da Nang instead of running to Saigon, and the railway announced further suspensions for 25, 26 and 27 Nov. | Vietnam+ (VNA), 24 Nov 2025 |

SE3 was hit. It was suspended on 27 Oct (with SE4), ran with long delays on 29 Oct (as SE3/SE4), and on 24 and 25 Nov the Hanoi departure ended at Da Nang.
Late November 2025. The Dieu Tri to Nha Trang section was disrupted from 17 Nov. That is a fact about 2025, not a forecast for this year.
What to check before you go, and on the day
- Warnings. Forecasts and storm warnings come from the national forecasting centre at nchmf.gov.vn, which is in Vietnamese. VNDMS at vndms.gov.vn is the disaster monitoring map of the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention.
- Trains. The railway's portal is vr.com.vn. Vietnam+ reported that in October 2025 the railway sent its notice about the cancelled heritage trains by SMS, Zalo, its website and its official fan page, and offered a free refund within 30 days of the departure date on the ticket. Read the current notice for this year's rule.
- Sights. The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre posts notices about fees and opening hours on its portal, in Vietnamese.
- Slack. We'd keep one unbooked day on this coast, and a night spare before any flight home.
